5 Stupid Things I Did During My Workouts (And You Should Avoid)

Hello there, fellow fitness enthusiasts! As a seasoned gym-goer, I’ve learned many valuable lessons, most of which were taught by my own blunders. I’m here today to share my top 5 workout mistakes in the hopes that you’ll avoid my embarrassment and get the most out of your own fitness journey. Prepare to laugh (at me) and learn!

Overestimating My Abilities: The Bench Press Fiasco

It’s a typical day at the gym, and I’m ready to tackle the bench press. The only problem? My ego. Despite being a relative newbie, I naively decided to stack on the plates, aiming to impress my fellow gym-goers. The result? I was pinned under the bar, flailing like a beached whale as I struggled to call for help. Lesson learned: start with lighter weights and build up gradually, leaving the ego at the door.

The Treadmill Disaster: Running at Warp Speed

For some reason, I thought it’d be a great idea to sprint on the treadmill at maximum speed. In my defence, I wanted to test my limits, but my coordination had other plans. As my legs failed to keep up, I was launched off the treadmill and onto the gym floor. I now know the importance of a gradual warm-up, and that maybe my legs aren’t quite ready for warp speed.

Misusing Gym Equipment: The Cable Machine Catastrophe

I’ll admit it; I didn’t know how to use the cable machine properly. But did I ask for help? Of course not! Instead, I forged ahead, attempting to perform some sort of bicep curl/triceps extension hybrid. The result? An embarrassing snap of the cable and a bruised ego. Now, I ask for guidance and ensure I know how to use equipment before attempting any exercise. Safety first, folks!

Ignoring Rest Days: The Perpetual Soreness Saga

At one point, I believed that working out every day was the key to getting fit fast. Spoiler alert: it’s not. After weeks of pushing myself to the limit, I found myself perpetually sore, fatigued, and, ironically, unable to work out. Now, I understand the importance of giving my body time to recover and appreciate the value of rest days.

Skipping Leg Day: The Chicken Leg Chronicles

For a while, I only focused on my upper body, completely neglecting my legs. The outcome? A hilariously disproportionate physique. My upper body was getting toned, while my legs remained as skinny as ever. Lesson learned: a balanced workout routine is crucial for overall fitness and aesthetics.

So there you have it – my top 5 workout blunders. It’s my hope that by sharing my own mistakes, you can avoid making the same errors and enjoy a smoother, safer, and more effective fitness journey. Remember, we’re all human, and it’s okay to mess up; just make sure to learn from those mistakes and keep pushing forward!

***Disclaimer!!!

This is not my story but I wish I was such a gym enthusiast.

Honestly, I’ve never stepped into a gym. I am too embarrassed to exercise in front of others. So I just have a private gym-room: nothing fancy, just the corner of my utility corner. There I have my elliptical, stepper, twister (that I seldom use), and a few dumbbells.

All the exercise that I do is to walk forty minutes on the terrace, 30 minutes on the elliptical, and occasional handshake, sorry leg shake with the stepper for 5 to 10 minutes. But do you know? It’s working guys, really working in my journey towards better health.

You should believe  it: all that it takes is a small change in your routine: a 5-minute walk to the grocers instead of your two-wheeler, just a 30-minute walk down the lane (preferably alone), and a conscious mind while eating … you should well and truly have begun your journey towards better health. Yes … that’s how it began for me … well then …

Happy journey!!!
